This Privacy Policy describes how IYKYK collects, uses, processes, discloses, and protects your information when you use our services. IYKYK is operated by Unencumbered Interactive Private Limited ("we," "us," or "the Company").
IYKYK is a game you play in person, with your friends, on one phone. That means it works differently from most apps — and this policy explains what that means for your data and for the data of everyone else in the room.
Playing With a Group
IYKYK is played by passing one phone around a group, and the photos and clips it makes of everyone playing are the whole point. At the end of a round, the app takes photos with both cameras — one of the person holding the phone, one of the group around them.
Because it's a group game, some of the people in those photos won't have the app themselves. So the one thing we ask of whoever starts the game: make sure everyone playing knows the app takes photos and records audio during a round, and is happy with that. If someone would rather not be in it, sit them out.
If you end up in a photo or clip and want it gone, we'll remove it — you don't need an account to ask. See Deletion Requests below.
How Recording Works
While a round is running, IYKYK records through the front camera and microphone. It uses that recording to find the moments worth keeping — the photos at the end of the round, and a short clip built from the liveliest parts of it.
Everything else is thrown away. The audio is only used to work out which moments were loudest or got the biggest reaction; we don't transcribe it, listen to it, or keep the full audio beyond what makes it into the final clip.
The exact approach changes as we improve the game. What won't change: recording only happens while a round is running, only what the game needs is kept, and the rest goes.
Information We Collect
Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your phone number, which we verify with a one-time password. We also collect your display name and profile picture if you add one.
Photos, Clips and Audio: The photos and clips produced during a game, as described above. These are kept on the device that played the game and uploaded to our servers after a round ends, so that sharing is fast when you want it.
Contacts: We do not currently access your contact list. If we add features that use it, we will ask for your permission first, and we will only use it to help you find people you already know. We will not store your full contact list on our servers.
Device Data: Information about your device, such as hardware model, operating system, unique device identifiers, and IP address. This helps us deliver notifications, troubleshoot issues, and keep your account secure.
Usage Data: How you interact with IYKYK — features you use, how often you play, general navigation patterns. This helps us understand what's working and what needs fixing.
Notifications: We use push notifications for activity in your games. Notification content is kept minimal to protect your privacy on lock screens.
How We Use Your Information
Run the game: Capturing, processing, storing and delivering photos and clips, maintaining your account, and sending notifications.
Keep people safe: Detecting suspicious activity, preventing unauthorised access, and acting on reports of abuse.
Improve IYKYK: We analyse aggregated, anonymised usage data to fix bugs and build features based on how people actually play.
Communicate with you: Service-related messages such as security alerts, account updates, or changes to our policies.
We do not use your photos, clips or audio to serve advertising, and we do not sell them.
Sharing Links
When a game ends, you can share a link to the session or the clip.
Anyone who has that link can open it — links aren't password-protected, and if one gets forwarded or posted, we can't control who sees it from there. Worth keeping in mind when you decide who to send it to.
If you save a clip and post it somewhere else — Instagram, WhatsApp, anywhere — that copy lives outside our systems, so deleting it from IYKYK won't remove it from wherever else it's been posted.
Data Sharing and Disclosure
With other players: Photos and clips from a game are visible to the people in that game. Your display name and profile picture are visible to people you play with.
With people you send links to. As described above.
With service providers. We work with trusted third parties for hosting, analytics, and infrastructure. They are contractually bound to use your data only to provide services to IYKYK and to maintain confidentiality.
For legal reasons. We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or government request, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of IYKYK, our users, or the public.
We do not sell your personal data.
Public Use of Clips
We will not post a clip of you publicly — on our social accounts, our website, or in marketing — unless you have explicitly given us permission for that specific clip, through a clear in-app choice. Turning that permission down does not affect your ability to play or share.
Data Retention and Deletion
Clips and photos. Clips and photos are stored on the device that played the game and on our servers, so that they load quickly and can be shared without waiting. How long a copy stays in each place depends on whether it was shared, how much space the device has, and how the game is being used — this is something we tune as the app develops. We don't keep clips longer than we need to run the service, and when a clip is deleted we remove it from both the device and our servers.
Deletion requests. Anyone who appears in a photo or clip can ask us to remove it, including people who don't have an IYKYK account. Any player in a game can delete that game's clip for everyone. To request removal, contact us at the address below or use the report link on the shared page.
Your account. You can delete your account at any time from the app or by contacting us. When you do, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 90 days, except where we are legally required to retain it. Clips from games you played in may remain visible to the other players in those games; ask us if you want them removed.
Your Rights and Choices
Access and correction: You can view and update your information in the app at any time.
Account deletion: Through app settings, or by contacting us.
Permissions: You control camera, microphone, and notification permissions through your device settings, and can revoke any of them at any time. IYKYK will not work without camera and microphone access.
Data portability: You can request a copy of your personal data in a portable format.
Data Security
We implement technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption of content in transit and at rest on our servers, secure authentication, and access controls. We are continuously working to strengthen these protections. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep your device and account secure.
Analytics
We use in-app analytics to understand how the game is played and to improve it. This data is aggregated and is not used to build advertising profiles. We do not use third-party advertising trackers and we do not serve targeted advertising.
Children and Young People
IYKYK is not intended for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13, and we will delete any such account promptly if we learn of it.
If you are under 18, you should have permission from a parent or guardian before using IYKYK. Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, users under 18 are treated as children, and we process their data in line with the protections that Act requires — including not using their data for behavioural profiling or targeted advertising.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child is using IYKYK without your permission, or appears in a clip you want removed, contact us and we will act on it.
Grievance Officer
In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we have appointed a Grievance Officer to address your concerns regarding data processing. You may contact the Grievance Officer at the details provided below.
Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by other appropriate means.
